PHIMOSIS TREATMENT

When the foreskin is too tight to be pulled back over the head or glans of the penis, the condition is known as phimosis. Only uncircumcised males are afflicted by phimosis, which affects boys more frequently than men. Since the foreskin is still connected to the glans in uncircumcised infants and toddlers, phimosis is common. It will begin to naturally separate between the ages of 2 and 6, though it may take place later. In some boys, it can begin as early as age 10 or 11. In roughly 50% of 1-year-old boys and almost 90% of 3-year-old boys, the foreskin can be pulled back behind the glans. Less than 1% of teenagers between 16 and 18 will develop phimosis. Symptoms are not always the result of phimosis. However, when it does, these could include swelling, soreness, or redness. Urine may not flow normally if the foreskin is too tight. In extreme cases, this may keep the person from completely emptying their bladder. Inflammation of the penis, known as balanitis, or of the glans and foreskin, known as balanoposthitis, can result from phimosis. Both of these ailments frequently result from poor hygiene. Balanitis symptoms include pain when urinating as well as soreness, itchiness, odor, redness, swelling, and a buildup of thick fluid. Phimosis can result in discomfort, skin splitting, or a lack of sensation during sex. Comfortable sex can be achieved by using lubricant and wearing a condom. The symptoms of phimosis will determine the best course of treatment. Balanitis is typically treatable with ointments, creams, and good hygiene. To improve hygiene, people are advised to gently dry their penis after cleaning it with lukewarm water each day. They should avoid using shampoo, bubble bath, or soap on their genitalia, and after urinating, they should dry under their foreskin. In order to relieve the irritation, a doctor might suggest applying a steroid cream or ointment. Antifungal cream or a course of antibiotics may be required if a fungal or bacterial infection led to balanoposthitis. Doctors may advise treating the phimosis itself in instances of severe or recurrent balanitis or balanoposthitis. In order to help soften the foreskin and make it simpler to retract, they may advise steroid creams or surgery. Doctors might advise circumcision, which involves removing all or part of the foreskin, despite the procedure's potential for bleeding and infection. It may also be possible to perform surgery to surgically release the areas where the foreskin becomes tangled with the glans. The foreskin will be preserved in this way, but phimosis may still happen in the future.
