Phimosis is a penile condition that affects some adults and children who are not circumcised. Your foreskin cannot be pulled back if you have phimosis (retracted). Your penis may appear to have rings around the tip. Having phimosis isn't always a bad thing. It only becomes a problem when symptoms appear. This could occur when phimosis is severe and leaves a pinhole-sized opening. Phimosis is classified into two types: physiologic and pathologic. The physiologic type is common in childhood and usually goes away as you get older. The pathologic type is linked to a condition known as balanitis xerotica obliterans (BXO). Phimosis is found in almost all newborns, and the foreskin gradually changes so that it can be pulled back.
