Phimosis is a male genital condition that affects some circumcised adults and children. If you have phimosis, you cannot pull your foreskin back (retracted). Rings around the tip of your penis may appear. Phimosis is not always a bad thing. When symptoms appear, it becomes a problem. When phimosis is severe and leaves a pinhole-sized opening, this can happen. There are two types of phimosis: physiologic and pathologic. The physiologic type is common in childhood and usually fades with age. Balanitis xerotica obliterans is a condition associated with the pathologic type (BXO). Phimosis is found in nearly all newborns, and the foreskin gradually changes to the point where it can be pulled back.
